Police said an 8-year-old child was murdered after his sibling accidently shot him with a shotgun.
The 8-year-old was home alone with his 10-year-old and 13-year-old brothers when he was shot in the torso with a shotgun round, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez
"A youngster was playing with a shotgun when it fired and hit his sister," said Gonzalez. "The infant died at the spot." A adolescent sibling was in the apartment but unharmed.
Unknown whether shotgun was loaded before or during children's play.
Gonzalez told the journalists that the family is "devastated" by what happened.
"I always struggle to say it's accidental because [incidents like] these are genuinely avoidable.
According to ABC News' Houston affiliate KTRK, the family just migrated from Venezuela to Houston and was enrolling their children in new schools.
