Joe Gibbs, a longstanding NASCAR owner and former NFL head coach, is dealing with an unthinkable tragedy.
Hours after Gibbs' grandson Ty won the Xfinity Series Championship on Saturday night, his son Coy died away peacefully.Ty's father, Coy Gibbs, was only 49 years old.
Joe Gibbs Racing issued a statement saying, "It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) departed to be with the Lord in his sleep yesterday night."
From 1991 to 1994, Coy Gibbs was a linebacker for Stanford. He eventually got into the family enterprises of football and NASCAR.
Gibbs worked as the offensive quality control coach for the Washington Redskins from 2004 to 2007 during his father's second tenure as the team's head coach.
At this time, our hearts and prayers are with the Gibbs family. We have no idea what they are going through or how intensely emotional the past 24 hours have been for them.
