Early DNA reveals two distinct populations in Britain after the last ice age
Scientists sequenced Britain's earliest human DNA and found two separate post-ice age demographic groupings.
A 14,000-year-old sample from Gough's Cave in Somerset, England, was compared to a 1,000-year-old sample from Kendrick's Cave, Wales.
Researchers uncovered 300 years earlier human presence in Britain by examining Gough's Cave relics.
Two genetic groupings were found in the samples.
In contrast, "the evidence in Gough's Cave testifies to a sophisticate culture of butchering and carving human bones," Bello added.
These early settlers also used mammoth ivory spear tips and reindeer antler batons.
