FDA Proposes Updated Rule for “Healthy” Foods
On September 28, 2022, FDA suggested a new definition of "healthy" for food labelling.
FDA previously said that "healthy" is an inferred nutritional content claim based on specified nutrient levels.
Include a significant quantity of at least one FDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans food category or subgroup.
Restrict added sugars, saturated fat, and salt.
Comment on the proposed regulation by December 28, 2022. Once the regulation is official, the FDA will give corporations 3 years to comply.
Thus, food and beverage firms would not have to comply with the final proposed regulation or change their labelling until 2026.
