S. Korea missile explosion during US practice creates terror in the metropolis

AP — SEOUL, South Korea During a live-fire practice with the US early on Wednesday, a South Korean ballistic missile malfunctioned 

and plummeted into the ground, alarming the already nervous people of a coastal city over rival North Korea's increasingly aggressive nuclear tests.

Many people in Gangneung thought it may be a North Korean strike because of the sound of the explosion and the ensuing fire,

and their worry only increased as hours passed with no explanation from the military or government officials.

No injuries have been reported,  The accident involved a short-range Hyumoo-2 ballistic missile that crashed inside an air force base outside of the city.

A missile that is a key component of South Korea's preemptive and retaliatory strike strategies against the North experienced a "abnormal flight," according to the military
