Spirit Airlines emergency-lands following engine fire

Friday, approximately 30 minutes after departure, Spirit Airlines flight 2077 from Baltimore to Orlando returned safely to Baltimore Thurgood Marshall Airport due

to a "mechanical problem," according to an initial statement released by Spirit Airlines to ABC News.

"It seems that a mechanical problem forced Spirit Airlines Flight 2077 from Baltimore to Orlando to turn around and go back to Baltimore. 

The flight successfully landed at BWI, and passengers disembarked as per standard practise.

The aircraft will be taken out of service so that our maintenance team can check it over to make sure everyone on board is safe "it said in the statement.

After taking off at 8:35 p.m., Spirit Airlines flight 2077 landed safely at 8:51 p.m.
