The personal finance website reported that September's average down payment in the 50 biggest metropolitan regions was $62,611, up 35% from previous year.

According to LendingTree, Birmingham, Alabama; Kansas City, Missouri; and Milwaukee may be bought with a down payment under $50,000.
Coastal towns, notably California, need the largest down payments.
San Jose ($142,006), San Francisco ($131,631), and Los Angeles ($104,749) have the highest down payment amounts, according to LendingTree.
